Introduction of the Germany Ticket

24.05.2023

For the new school year 2023/2024, there will be important changes for pupils who receive a travel pass (chip card) from the Jena school administration. The introduction of the "Deutschland Ticket" will significantly expand the service portfolio, as the chip card can now be used not only in Jena but throughout Germany in accordance with the regulations for the above-mentioned ticket.

All applicants whose application was submitted to the Jena school administration by the deadline of 22.05.2023 will receive corresponding notifications describing the exact procedure for the changeover. The time limit is initially valid until 31.12.2023, as there may be fare adjustments to the "Deutschland Ticket" on 01.01.2024.

This means in detail:

  • For holders of a Jenabonus, the chip card is valid as a "Deutschland-Ticket" if the application is submitted on time on the first summer holiday (08.07.2023). For this purpose, the administrative fee must be transferred after receipt of the notification of approval and the chip card must be presented at the Jenaer Nahverkehr service center for activation (further information in the notification).
  • For holders of a travel pass as part of the statutory benefits, the chip card is valid as a "Deutschland-Ticket" if the application is submitted on time on the first day of school (21.08.2023). Here, too, the chip card must be presented to the Jenaer Nahverkehr service center for activation after receiving the notification of approval (further information in the notification).

Please note that according to the fare regulations, an official photo document must be carried when using the "Deutschland-Ticket". A school ID card is not sufficient proof.

Parents who receive a refund for their child after the school year (statutory benefits or optional school benefits) can also claim the "Deutschland-Ticket" with the corresponding proof of payment.
