State elementary school "Westschule" Jena
The Westschule is located close to the city center in a renovated old building. Almost 400 children are currently learning here in 18 age-homogeneous classes. They are supported by 23 teachers, a special needs teacher and 16 after-school care teachers.
Lessons start at 7:45 am and end at 12:40 or 1:30 pm. Each school week begins with a morning circle. This is followed by learning times and subject lessons.
From Year 3 onwards, pupils receive grades. In the afternoon, the children can play in the after-school club, take part in a variety of leisure activities and do their homework. The West School cultivates an artistic profile. Every year, an art night and a Christmas or spring concert alternate.
