"Talschule" Public Elementary School, Jena
The Talschule is located in an old, renovated building and celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2016. The school features a modern gym and a green school grounds with plenty of opportunities for learning and play.
Students learn in classes of no more than ten students of the same age. Lessons are varied and include partner and group work, lecture-style instruction, weekly schedules, learning stations, workshop-based learning, and projects.
Grades are assigned starting in third grade. In the classrooms, children with special educational needs and children from immigrant backgrounds learn together in an inclusive setting. Nearly all students take advantage of the full-day care program, which includes homework assistance provided by the after-school program. The after-school program is open until 5:00 p.m.
